Construction History of the 20th Century, Construction Processes, Patents in Architectural History
Tiago Matthes is a research assistant and doctoral candidate at the Professorship of Construction Heritage and Preservation at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on patents for skeletal frame systems as well as façade and building components, forming part of the SNSF funded project “Architecture & Patent”.
He studied architecture at the Leibniz University in Hanover and visual culture at the Technical University in Vienna. In 2011, he obtained his diploma in architecture at the Leibniz University Hanover. From 2011 to 2015, he worked as an architect at Spillmann Echsle Architekten in Zurich, where he worked as project leader on the conversion of the Maag Music Hall and the Tanzwerk 101. Between 2013 and 2019, Tiago taught as a research assistant at the Professorship of Construction and Design at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and was a guest lecturer at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing in 2016.
