The HIL building. Silent expression of technical progress in the 1970s

Student: Oana Popescu

Supervisor: Robin Rehm & Matthias Brenner

The focus work examines the HIL building, built between 1972 and 1975 by Max Ziegler and Eric Lanter, on the Hönggerberg campus of the ETHZ. Flexibility and efficiency, made possible by the technology of its materials and installations, characterize this building that stands out from nature while merging with the landscape. The themes of signal color, materials, and a detailed study of the project process allow to understand this building that tends towards an autonomous architecture.
