SEMINAR WEEK HS25

REVERSIBLE DESIGNS
October 20–24, 2025

Teaching Team: Yves Ebnöther (ZHaW), Dominik Reisach (ETH ARCH), Anne Fabritius (ETH ARCH), Thierry Tardent (ETH HANGAR)

As part of the seminar week, a design-build workshop will take place at the ETH Hangar in Dübendorf, whose halls and workshops are used by student focus teams for the development of innovations in the fields of mobility, robotics, energy, and space systems.

The paved outdoor area in front of the former aircraft hangars is currently unfurnished. In the on-site workshop, participants will develop a modular, shade-providing furniture system that meets the diverse requirements and wishes of the users on site.

Participants will be introduced to the basics of furniture design and, in dialogue with the users, will develop a flexible furniture system made from residual and waste materials. They will learn how to use the innovative Shaper Origin hand-held CNC milling machine and design modern, reversible wood joints using digital manufacturing techniques. The aim of the seminar week is to produce a prototype furniture system on a 1:1 scale using recycled materials.
