Robin Rehm, Raumdurchdringung und »Traumdenken«. Zu Marcel Breuers Schrankmobiliaram Bauhaus Dessau, in: architectura. Zeitschrift für Geschichte der Baukunst / Journal of the History of Architecture, 53, 2023, H. 1, S. 63–93.
From models of traditional furniture and geometric shapes to technical materials and wood connections to spatial resolution and aesthetic perception: the cabinets designed by Marcel Breuer at the Bauhaus cover almost all of the problems of furniture construction in the Weimar Republic. This article investigates Breuer’s cupboard furniture in relation to the history of the cupboard, the concept of type furniture and the relationship between the box furniture at the Bauhaus, including provenance, as well as carpentry in the Weimar Republic in general. In addition, considerations are given to the conception of Breuer’s cabinets with regard to their spatial illusionistic appearance and the associated idea of »Sachlichkeit«.
