On 4 and 5 September 2026, FREITAG celebrates the 20th anniversary of its flagship store on Geroldstrasse in Zurich. Built in 2006 from decommissioned shipping containers, the FREITAG Tower has since become a landmark of the neighbourhood and an architectural expression of a circular approach.
To kick off the anniversary celebrations, a panel discussion on “Circularity in Architecture and Design” will bring together Barbara Buser, architect and pioneer in the reuse of building components and transformation, Silke Langenberg, Professor of Construction Heritage and Preservation at ETH Zurich, and Markus Freitag, designer and co-founder of FREITAG. The discussion will be moderated by Palle Petersen, architecture editor at Hochparterre.
As part of the anniversary, the exhibition “A SECOND LIFE”, exploring the history of FREITAG and its iconic container tower, will be on view on the upper floors throughout both days. On Friday evening, the celebrations continue from 6:00 pm with music, live acts, screen printing, drinks and pizza. Saturday’s programme starts at 10:00 am with coffee and a DIY upcycling station.
